Not terribly intelligent (not a single adults will get it, children won't gag), not terribly well executed (the art is pretty boring), but loads of simple fun.

The hippo steals the show and for once, Chris Rock didn't aggravate the crap out of me. I adored the penguins, which I always do.

****More Gratuitous Penguins!****

Best line in the movie: Just smile and wave, boys, just smile and wave!
(Said by the head honcho penguin)

Best sarcastic response:
As our animal friends are waving goodbye to the lemurs from the ship, believing they will return to New York City via the open waters -
Opener line (said by sunbathing penguin): Should we tell them the boat is out of gas, boss?
Response line (said by Boss penguin): Nah.

The obligatory "I'm too literal" question:
Why does the Lemur King have such a wierd accent when none of the other lemurs do? And wtf is that accent, anyway? Half Arabian Farsi/half Jamaican.

A first for animated movies:
The use of an animated human skeleton as a pointer during a presentation by a lemur in a crown.

Favorite scene:
When the penguins finally arrive in their hijacked ship in Anarctica and are standing in the great frozen wasteland looking at all the ice as the wind howls around them.
Their response: "This place sucks".

Here's your warning:
See this movie and have "Move it, move it" echoing in your head for hours.
What's worse - you'll be enjoying it while shaking your hips as you sing the lyrics under your breath. From now on, my hamster LJ icon will dance only to "Move It, Move It" until further notice.

Odd question that must be answered:
There's apparently some new rule in animated movies that there must be at LEAST one animated song and dance scene...those who saw Robots will remember this, fondly.

In honor of a new LJ friend, Chyara (great to meet you, hon), I'm now going to post a quiz from every new friend's journals in the grand tradition of filching :)

Let me get this tale straight.

A monkey washes up on shore dressed in a French officer's uniform. The town decides the monkey is a spy for Napolean (its an old story) and tries him in a court for espionage. The monkey refused to answer questions, so they presumed he was guilty and hung him as a spy.

And now they've found a piece of simian bone that proved this all happened?

So, my thought is this - Dubya was the judge that presided over the trial and was cursed in this life to resemble the spy he sentenced to death.

Who'll give me odds?

Spoke with Mum this afternoon to thank her for the great box and remind her what was in it! Her birthday is tomorrow and she's having dinner with Dad, Emily and Emily's new boyfriend, Joshua, at her favorite bistro. Mum's still chuckling over the fact that both her daughters are involved with men named "Joshua" and both men are in the Navy. For a liberal intelligencia New England Jewess - I think she's taking it well. Particularly as Emy's Josh is - A DOCTOR! I can hear my mother's voice over the cell phone: "A Doctor, honey, he's a doctor!"

Mum and I had yet another discussion over the fact I haven't done a bloody thing to change my last name to my married name. I'm not crazy about it, but then, I wasn't impressed with my maiden name, either. I'm of the mindset nothing really sounds good with "Trista", anyhow.

So Mum gave me the guilt trip (just in time for Shavout!) about how this must make the hubby feel and how I need to get to DOL to change my last name to my married name, switch out the bank accounts (except the one in Switzerland - natch) and just commit to my married name. She's liberal enough to understand keeping my maiden name, but old fashioned enough to wonder why half my ID is in my maiden name, the other half in my married one.

She's got a point, but I'm still not motivated to do it.

Grumbles....
