New rabbit - Gabriella

This little gal, a chestnut agouti mini-lop, was brought in today by a nice pagan gal who caught her on the Naval Air Station. Predictably, she was covered in fleas, really underweight and dehydrated. After a flea shampooing, toweling off and introducing myself she gladly submitted to a half dozen syringe-fulls of cool water.

As to her name, Kevin who has built and repaired many a rabbit enclosure asked to name her.

Why is it that people think that pets can just be dumped in the wild and be okay?

There's an unspoken and unwritten caste system with animals - Family Rodentia, lizards and fish fall into the lowest rung so even the laws tend to treat them differently.

The minimal upkeep for a rabbit in an agricultural island like ours is absolutely horrifying. But then, I'm no fan of those tiny hutches to begin with. Our rabbits like to run around.
