Farm work day

trystinnWe've been crazy busy here today -
I cleaned off the back porch and moved the larger Metroshelving into the blue shed. The wood shelving unit is now on the back porch holding our yard shoes. We use the shelves for holding food, coolers, etc. when we BBQ in the summer, so they are useful.
I moved the brooder chicks into the blue shed coop, then Scarlet to the old hutch coop where Ruby was already asleep. I hooked up an LED sensor nightlight in there to keep the gals company. Scarlet didn't seem too interested in taking care of the chicks, but then she didn't attack them either which is a good sign. There's now two heat lamps out there to keep the chicks warm, which should be fine. It's 44F out there right now and it's almost 70F where they are in the coop.
"All the brooders and rabbit cage have been taken outside and cleaned. I set them aside to dry, then I'll put them in the gray shed tomorrow.
The compost pile (gorgeous soil, btw) has been separated from the burn pile, Noah and I bonfired most of the afternoon so we've really denuded that pile. There's another pile of soiled hay, etc. under a tarp to create another compost pile. Noah managed to rake the last 1/4 or so of the yard at the back. He's going to work the yard in 1/4 increments from back to front, the front yard being the last. The circle isn't quite ready for Spring Equinox, but it will be.
All the recycling and garbage is out so Kevin and I can do the dump run tomorrow morning. I cleaned out the blue coop, as well and re-organized. The Metroshelving really is great in there - it's larger and has more shelving. I also dusted and swept the shed out. Wow, do those birds create a lot of dust! For fun, I tacked an old dry erase board to the blue shed coop's door so we can leave messages to each other and I can remind myself of how much feed I have (starter, layer, rabbit, hay).
The dogs are exhausted, we had a few groups of kids here and they threw the ball for Gracie for hours. We're all feeling rather pleased with ourselves and body tired. Every time I sit down, my body tightens up a bit but it's a good feeling.
I'll likely finish up tomorrow with a few projects after work."
