A few of your favorite things:
The ducklings are getting BIG. Picy post Friday. Also, we should be seeing newly hatched ducklings very soon from Mia, who is brooding over in our neighbor Patrick's yard. They've been putting out a pail of water and needed to know what else she needed, I told him that unless he wanted to feed her (which I'm ready to supply), not much. Right now, she's a hoot - hollering from the back of his property, down the front of his property, down the street to my place, down the property line between our homes, across the back of our house, then to the piles of feed I throw out. HOLLERING the whole way. Quite the display, really.
We've two brooding chickens, both cochins. Onyx (Black) is brooding a pile of eggs inseminated by Big Blue, the Splash Rooster. The other is our white & brown speckled cochin, the one we incubated this Fall. Likely Napoleon is male donor there, which means Frizzled chicks! Might be Rodrigo, though he's a 1/3 her size and hasn't shown any interest in covering the ladies. Speaking of which, Napoleon has been BUSY. Geesh. I expect the Silkie he was covering will be brooding quite soon. Now if only one of the Rhodies would start brooding, I'd really love to have more of those gorgeous chicks - Whidbey Island Blues, we call them!
Today Flash realized that he could utilize the adoration and petting capabilities of our neighbor, Patrick, through an open slat in the fence. To make himself more presentable, he jumped up on a pile of cinder blocks, then climbed onto the duck nesting box. Which basically brings him up to my eye level so this is TALL. Doodle thought this looked like a hell of a lot of fun, so he climbed up, too. And since the Bassets were getting petted, Libby decided she simply must take over. So the three of them were up getting pettings. Flash figured out he could use the dogshed next to this pile of crap (emphasis on CRAP) to get down. Doodle needed Mommy, as he was stuck! Thankfully, lifting and lowering Doodle is well within my pitiful fitness level, so no worries there.
On a bit of an impulse (around here an impulse is equal to about 48 hours since I first saw them) I bought four blue Adirondak chairs and two matching tables. I've been wanting a sitting area out front, now I have two. *snort* And before you ask "Tris, why you buying stuff when you're planning to move?" all I can say is: I HAD TO HAVE THEM! *pant*
