Poultry Movements: The ugliest coop

trystinnJosh came home and generously offered to clean the coop for me. Took him about 15 minutes to do, then I spread out the shavings and sprinkled DE on top. We moved the bantam boys from the Love Shack to the Blue Shed pen after I put a few more boxes in there for snuggling to keep warm. Those two don't crow generally, so I'm hopeful they'll stay quiet.
The Ameraucanas now have a new, if temporary and ugly home. We ended up scrapping our previous plans and instead just re-fenced the pen with plastic garden fencing, tied them off with zipties and shoved the pen up under the box roof. Tossed a few armfuls of hay inside the pen, another couple in the coop, then set up the roost and a box for laying eggs in. Josh is tired of accidentally grabbing the ceramic and wooden training eggs, so he had me draw little faces on them. One of our happy eggs was tossed inside the box in the hopes they would invite a few of their friends. :D
We need to get some latches to hold the doors down, so that's a Home Despot trip tomorrow. We jammed a few cinder blocks to hold them in place for now. A few branches have been jammed through the fencing so they have places to roost in the pen and coop. Its ugly and tacky, but it'll do until Spring. Libby is having a marvelous time checking on the chickens, even Gracie seems proud to have her feathered sheep put away safely.
The little female Splash Silkie has become a bit of a pocket pet, hanging out on my shoulder and in a basket on the kitchen counter. She makes the oddest scratchy little chirps, we've begun calling her Cricket. Tonight, she wouldn't go in the Bantie barn until I picked her up and cuddled her a little.
